It’s the international event called World Youth Day (WYD). It is organised by Roman Catholic Church for young people. In 2016 it will take place in Kraków. Starts from 26th till 31st of July. This information was announced by Pope Francis in 2013 during last WYD in Brazil. Saint John Paul II and Blessed Teresa of Calcutta are saints patron of the event.

This special day was initiated by Pope John Paul II in 1985. Starts from then, we celebrate it in every two or three years in different location. During this time, people are able to see Pope, as he prays and celebrates the Mass on live. He will ride by his “papamobile” around the city, so everyone gets the chance to see, and sometime even touch, the most important person of Catholic Church.

This event already took place in: Italy, Argentina, Spain, Poland, USA, Philippines (In 1995 they break the Guinness World Record of the largest crowd. It was about 4 mln people there), France, Canada, Germany, Australia, Brazil.
World Youth Day has taken place in Poland only once in Częstochowa in 1991.


First day is an official arrival of pilgrims, and for next 3 days it is a time for Catechetical session with participating bishops. Third day is an official day of Pope’s arrival. During this event, people praying, singing, having fun, becoming friends with people from the other side of Globe. At the last day Pope announces who will be the venue for next WYD.
